Cerner and NY Life Deal, Good or Evil? Seemed like a good topic for a show.
Electronic health record vendor Cerner announced on Wednesday that it was collaborating with New York Life to provide secure access to EHRs.
The partnership represents a move into the life insurance industry from Cerner Corporation, aimed at accelerating underwriting decisions and simplifying the application process.
The collaboration aims to support New York Life Insurance Company in accessing hospitals’ EHRs in near-real time, with patient consent, according to the companies.
Another goal is to make it easier for individuals to apply for life insurance, while also easing the administrative burden on healthcare providers.
I’m always looking for two things when I read these agreements. Who directs the sharing action and does benefit accrue to the patient?
In the case of Surveillance companies they use and share the information without my knowledge in most cases and the benefit accrues to them in the form a Trillion dollar valuations.
I don’t see that here. I see a partnership that is facilitating patient directed interoperability with value accruing to me the patient as well as others.
