MD to CIO – Advice for the Younger Generation of Physicians

The downside of being a physician in an administrative role is that you can overdo it. You can overplay the hand of I’m a doctor and I know what I’m talking about. That can be used for good and not so good. So you have to calibrate that. You have to choose when you’re gonna play that card.
As a manager, you first have to figure out if people are answering your questions. If your questions are reasonable and they’re not getting answered in a way that makes sense for you. If people can’t do that, then there’s something not making sense. It’s about finding confidence and trust in your ability to ask those kinds of questions and set those expectations.

Amplify great thinking to propel healthcare forward and raise up the next generation of health leaders.
